2nd UN World Water Quality Alliance Meeting

JRC is hosting the 2nd meeting of the UN World Water Quality Alliance (UN WWQA) in Ispra from 16-18 September. The Alliance, which is performing the respective world water quality assessment as mandated by the UN Environment Assembly. Indeed, UN Environment’s Freshwater Strategy 2017-2021 addresses water quality, water-related ecosystems and integrated water resource management, and highlights UN Environment’s role as the custodian agency supporting Member States in reporting on the related Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) indicators. In resolution (UNEP/EA.3/Res.10) from December 2017 adopted by the United Nations Environment Assembly on “Addressing water pollution to protect and restore water-related ecosystems” Member States highlight the water quality challenge, the role of emerging pollutants and the relevance to human and ecosystem health on national scale and in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
